Ponamero Sundown - Stonerized (2009) @english version 0

okt11

Ponamero Sundown has been the apple of my eye for long; I noticed them through a song that still remains my favourite in the genre and is titled Espiritu Diablo. This song feels so much like a Mexican cuwboi riding into the sunset with a sombrero, that it’s difficult to believe these guys are chasing Finnish rocker chicks in the Swedish woods. This year, after four previous demos, their album Stonerized was released at Transubstans Records. Let’s see what this album reserves for a stoner fan.

God Damn - Old Days (2009) @english version 0

God Damn, a relatively young band formed in 2004 is one of those things that I just cannot pass by and say nothing of. They are one of the most promising southern metal band that I’ve been listening to lately since their album Old Days was published a few months ago. And we don’t even have to go overseas for them! olvass tovább »

After Blind Dog let’s take a look at another Scandinavian stoner group who combines their music with hard rock. Ponamero Sundown was formed in 2005 by three enthusiastic Swedish lads whose names are: Nick Engwall (vocals), Peter Eklund (drum) and Anders Martinsgård (guitar). I’d like to drool out a few statements on their album (which is available via their official website) for those who are even too lazy to download free stuff. Although it is strongly advised that you do download the album.

Zippo - The Road To Knowledge (2008) @english version 0

Hopefully there is no need to introduce the Italian Zippo to the Hungarian stoner audience because the band is a regular visitor of our country for a few years now and not only in Budapest but in Szeged as well. The last time they graced us with their presence was last October when they were touring with their album The Road To Knowledge. Nevertheless the album is still fresh because the distribution on a larger scale only started during the beginning of 2009. olvass tovább »

Barbarella: Neon City (CD) @english version 0

The Dutch band Barbarella, was recommending itself discreetly through shoutbox on last.fm; that’s how I took interest in them. According to their press material the music is a kind of rock and roll of the modern ages and that pretty much fits them. olvass tovább »

Slough Feg - Ape Uprising (2009) @english version 0

According to the band’s official biography, in 1990 they moved from Pennsylvania to San Francisco in order to resurrect the true-metal scene. From that we already know that we are not dealing with youngsters, the music that was supposed to achieve the great purpose is non other than the prime-doom, following in the steps of Saint Vitus, Obsessed, Trouble, Candlemass and of course Black Sabbath adding a lot of metal feeling to it as well. olvass tovább »

Church of Misery - Houses of the Unholy (2009) @english version 0

After 5 years, the third official album of the cult band was finally released. The new material is in line with the previous ones, the music didn’t change much perhaps a bit less dirty, rackety sounding and somewhat more boogie like songs. Nevertheless it still remains the 70s inspired mid-paced hard-rock/doom like the previous ones. olvass tovább »

Zoroaster - Voice of Saturn @english version 0

It’s been about a month since the new album of Zoroaster, titled Voice of Saturn was published. In comparison to their previous ones it is more experimental and psychedelic rendering it much more digestible. It appears that they picked up a faster pace however, the growling became more like shouting and as inspiration they used Sleep, the sixties and even some shamanistic quirks instead of pain, Eyehategod and the swamp. olvass tovább »
