It was love at first listening. A few seconds of the first track, and thought: this is it!
The first track, Arrival on Titan got me hooked so much that now I listen to it every single day. It’s made of pure, unrestrained energy, boosted by the zippy vocals. The tune is the icing on the cake, it stays in the head immediately. olvass tovább »

It’s not new stuff, but we don’t meet often Polish stoner bands, plus the band’s lovely promoter contacted me, and the record is coming on in autumn. This one is not bad at all, released throughout the world via stonerrock.com. Since 2002, the band mostly gives concerts in Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania. Let’s see if this Elvis is really of a deluxe kind! olvass tovább »

Ponamero Sundown has been the apple of my eye for long; I noticed them through a song that still remains my favourite in the genre and is titled Espiritu Diablo. This song feels so much like a Mexican cuwboi riding into the sunset with a sombrero, that it’s difficult to believe these guys are chasing Finnish rocker chicks in the Swedish woods. This year, after four previous demos, their album Stonerized was released at Transubstans Records. Let’s see what this album reserves for a stoner fan.

God Damn, a relatively young band formed in 2004 is one of those things that I just cannot pass by and say nothing of. They are one of the most promising southern metal band that I’ve been listening to lately since their album Old Days was published a few months ago. And we don’t even have to go overseas for them! olvass tovább »

After Blind Dog let’s take a look at another Scandinavian stoner group who combines their music with hard rock. Ponamero Sundown was formed in 2005 by three enthusiastic Swedish lads whose names are: Nick Engwall (vocals), Peter Eklund (drum) and Anders Martinsgård (guitar). I’d like to drool out a few statements on their album (which is available via their official website) for those who are even too lazy to download free stuff. Although it is strongly advised that you do download the album.

Hopefully there is no need to introduce the Italian Zippo to the Hungarian stoner audience because the band is a regular visitor of our country for a few years now and not only in Budapest but in Szeged as well. The last time they graced us with their presence was last October when they were touring with their album The Road To Knowledge. Nevertheless the album is still fresh because the distribution on a larger scale only started during the beginning of 2009. olvass tovább »

The Dutch band Barbarella, was recommending itself discreetly through shoutbox on last.fm; that’s how I took interest in them. According to their press material the music is a kind of rock and roll of the modern ages and that pretty much fits them. olvass tovább »

According to the band’s official biography, in 1990 they moved from Pennsylvania to San Francisco in order to resurrect the true-metal scene. From that we already know that we are not dealing with youngsters, the music that was supposed to achieve the great purpose is non other than the prime-doom, following in the steps of Saint Vitus, Obsessed, Trouble, Candlemass and of course Black Sabbath adding a lot of metal feeling to it as well. olvass tovább »
