The Dutch band Barbarella, was recommending itself discreetly through shoutbox on last.fm; that’s how I took interest in them. According to their press material the music is a kind of rock and roll of the modern ages and that pretty much fits them.

Barbarella: Neon City
The Neon City titled album, which can be downloaded for free, is full of energetic and dashing tracks where the vocals can be hummed after a few times of listening while nodding to the rythm. Sober precision characterises the band, you cannot feel or hear a speck of dirt or sign of madness and perhaps not even the use of alcohol. The music brings back the rock of the 70s but not nostalgically and does not linger on it, simply it uses the sounding of the era freshening the music up which is good to hear nowadays. They combine the classical elements cleverly and create something new. They are quite succesful in their home country and maybe some day they’ll also make it to Hungary via a European tour. Until then, go download the album and listen to it, and if you are willing to pay $5 for it you can download it in a higher bitrate via their home page. (It’s good to see that there are some bands who still have their own pages and not just myspace profiles.) Barbarella @last.fm, @barbarella-rocks.com
